Kajo Castle Park is about a ten-minute walk from Yamagata Station and the site of the former Yamagata Castle. Its moat and various castle remains provide a charming backdrop to the park’s 1,200 somei yoshino. Several hundred other sakura including oshimazakura and edohigan are also on display here. The 35.9-hectare park is a top sakura destination and filled with seasonal visitors attracted to the sakura and night-time illuminations, tea ceremonies, and other events.
